Our Wool

Q: WHERE DOES OUR WOOL COME FROM?

At Unaduna, transparency is one of our core values. We use ethically sourced merino wool from South America, where mulesing is never practised. Animal welfare is a fundamental priority throughout our sourcing process. Our collections are designed in the Netherlands and, depending on the collection, produced in carefully selected manufacturing facilities across Europe.

Our products are certified according to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, meaning every finished garment has been independently tested for harmful substances and meets strict international safety standards.

Q: IS OUR WOOL TREATED?

Yes, most of our merino wool is treated with Total Easy Care. We believe it is important to be transparent about this choice and explain why we have consciously selected the Total Easy Care treatment for most of our products. While merino wool is an exceptional natural fibre, untreated wool can be sensitive to heat and friction, which may lead to shrinkage or felting during washing. The Total Easy Care treatment makes the wool easier to care for while preserving the natural qualities that make merino wool so highly valued.

Our decision is based on more than ten years of developing, wearing, washing and comparing different types of both treated and untreated merino wool. While the Total Easy Care treatment makes our garments more costly to produce, we believe the added value is well worth it. Not only does it make our garments easier to care for, but it also helps them retain their quality, shape and appearance over time. The result is sustainable clothing with a longer lifespan, made to be worn, loved and passed on to siblings.

We've also found this reflected in the feedback we receive from our customers. Many of them appreciate the combination of natural comfort, easy care and garments that stay beautiful for longer.

Q: WHAT DOES THE TOTAL EASY CARE TREATMENT INVOLVE?

During the Total Easy Care process, the natural scale structure on the surface of each wool fibre is gently refined. An ultra-thin protective layer is then applied, creating a smoother fibre surface. As a result, our wool is:

  • less prone to shrinking and felting;
  • softer against the skin;
  • suitable for machine washing.

The treatment is carried out under strict quality controls. All substances used during the process are carefully managed and fully removed or neutralized. The finished garments are extensively tested by accredited laboratories and comply with the requirements of OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, which carefully tests for substances that may be of concern for sensitive skin, such as trace levels of formaldehyde, heavy metals, and certain allergenic dyes.

Q: DOES THE WOOL RETAIN ITS NATURAL PROPERTIES?

Yes. Preserving the exceptional qualities of merino wool is one of the main reasons we have chosen the Total Easy Care treatment. Independent testing confirms that the wool retains its key natural performance characteristics after treatment. It remains:

  • naturally breathable;
  • temperature regulating, helping keep you warm when it's cold and cool when it's warm;
  • moisture managing;
  • naturally resistant to dirt and odours;
  • exceptionally soft and comfortable to wear.

These are the qualities that make merino wool such a versatile and high-performing natural fibre, while also offering the added convenience of easy care.

Q: ARE ALL OF OUR WOOL PRODUCTS TREATED WITH TOTAL EASY CARE?

No. While most of our merino wool products are treated with Total Easy Care, a few collections are intentionally left untreated. These include our wool fleece collection, our women's knitwear collection, and our merino wool/silk natural collection with crochet edge. We choose the most suitable finish for each collection based on the characteristics of the fabric and the intended use of the garment. This allows us to preserve the qualities that make each product unique while ensuring the best possible performance and comfort.
